Daniel J. Morrell - Museum Videos
Below are the actual videos produced by Underwater Research Associates (Mike Michaels video editing). These videos are constantly playing in the Morrell display room at the Whitefish Point Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. The stunning video and all of the marine archaeology that updated the Morrell's sinking are a tribute to the URA team. ENJOY these trips back through history!
Below is the LONG version of the Morrell Bow. The STERN LONG version is too large to upload ... see the "shorts" below.
Below are the museum SHORT versions (less content ... but highlights).
URA SONAR Survey of the Daniel J. Morrell shipwreck in support of the museum display project
For two springs the URA team ran multiple SONAR scans over the Daniel J. Morrell in support of the Great Lakes Maritime Shipwreck Museum's new display project. Hundreds of images were taken from various approach angles over both the bow half and the stern half. Both lower resolution (100KHz) and high resolution (500KHz) SONAR "fish" were deployed. All of the SONAR is "captured"(recorded) digitally when fish are deployed. Individual images were taken by camera on the large digital display screen where we could "zoom in" and capture more detail. The best of these digital images were cropped, enhanced by contrast, color, tone, lightness, gamma factor, and more to generate some extremely detailed images of the Morrell as she lays on the bottom Lake Huron. Below are just a few samples of the SONAR imagery taken. Much of this effort was utilized in John DeBeck's book on the Morrell, and you will find the images strategically placed to help John tell the Morrell's story.
