METROPOLE DEPTH: 210 feet LEVEL: Technical The 190-ton wooden steamer, Metropole (118' x 22' 7" x 7'), launched as the Sakie Shepherd on June 23, 1883, at Huron, Ohio, at Cleveland in 1887, had its name changed in 1901. On Aug. 3, 1903, a leak developed and the ship sank, with the crew rowing ashore in the lifeboat. This wreck is intact! Images (see below) Left : The little steamer, Metropole. CRIS KOHL COLLECTION.
