2020 Survey & Dive Activity
In 2018 URA discovered a VERY VERY OLD shipwreck ... definitely PRE-1850's. In 2019 we had a "bust" ... nothing new found. But then come 2020 and URA pulls off a "hat trick" and discovers not one, not two, but THREE new shipwrecks all in the spring survey.
2019 and 2020 were also jammed with research the team performed on the Daniel J. Morrell. You can find much info on this work under the Daniel J. Morrell (1974) webpage and the sub-pages below it. Much of this work was in support of the newly planned Daniel J. Morrell dedicated display room at the Great Lakes Maritime Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point, Michigan AND on John DeBeck's new book of the Morrell.
So, 2019 and 2020 were PACKED with URA activity in spite of first no and then three new shipwrecks.
URA has done some basic research on the four 2018 and 2020 new discoveries ... and we "think" we know their ID's. What we lack is access to the paper newspaper records at the Alpena Library to fill in the "stories" of these ships and the sailors who worked them. We have produced a short "spoiler" ... or more of a "teaser" video of these four new finds. I believe URA will be "presenting them the fall of 2021 and we'll "post" the video here after we go public with more specifics.
Meanwhile, I will try to add some of the video and images from 2020 and 2021 on this page when time permits.
STAY TUNED ...
